LS Power Starts Construction on $1 Billion, 285-Mile SWIP-North Transmission Project
LS Power affiliate Great Basin Transmission has broken ground on the Southwest Intertie Project-North, a 285-mile, 500-kV transmission line connecting Idaho and Nevada. The project represents more than $1 billion of investment and will link the Midpoint Substation near Twin Falls, Idaho, with Robinson Summit near Ely, Nevada. Construction began in summer 2026 and completion is targeted for 2028. California ISO selected Great Basin Transmission to develop the project in 2023, final cost-recovery approval followed in 2024, and Idaho Power secured participation approval in 2025. SWIP-North is expected to create around 300 construction jobs and generate more than $375 million of regional economic impact, while expanding access to renewable and lower-cost electricity across the western US.
Inox Solar Americas Wins 767 MW US Solar Module Supply Contract
Inox Solar Americas has signed a 767 MW photovoltaic module supply agreement covering three utility-scale solar projects in North Carolina and Texas. The projects have individual capacities of approximately 71 MW, 102 MW and 594 MW, with module deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027. The unnamed customer is a US renewable-energy developer and independent power producer active in utility solar and storage. Inox will supply its Vega Series bifacial modules powered by Galaxion N-Type cells. The company recently acquired Boviet Solar’s Greenville, North Carolina manufacturing assets, including 3 GW of operating annual module capacity and 3 GW of planned cell-manufacturing capacity, expected online in 2027. The agreement strengthens Inox’s domestic-content and US solar supply-chain strategy.
POWERCHINA Advances More Than 1.8 GW of Wind Projects and Battery Manufacturing in Egypt
POWERCHINA is advancing more than 1.8 GW of wind capacity in Egypt while expanding into battery-storage manufacturing. Its portfolio includes the operational 500 MW Amunet Gulf of Suez wind farm, the 1.1 GW Gulf of Suez project under construction, and the 202.5 MW Ras Ghareb wind project. POWERCHINA also began construction in August 2026 on Sungrow’s first battery energy-storage manufacturing base in the Middle East and Africa, located on a 50,000-square-metre site at Ain Sokhna. Since entering Egypt in 2012, POWERCHINA says its activities have generated more than 2,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs, while over 350 professionals have received energy-sector training. The programme combines renewable generation, storage infrastructure and local manufacturing.
