LG Energy Solution’s LMR Battery Retains 92.2% Energy After 883 Cycles

LG Energy Solution and Seoul National University have developed technology aimed at accelerating commercialisation of lithium manganese-rich batteries, potentially lowering battery costs by reducing dependence on expensive cathode materials. Tests using 40 Ah-class large-format cells showed the cells retained 92.2 percent of their initial energy after 883 cycles. Researchers found that lowering the upper charging voltage from 4.6 V to 4.3 V increased recovery of oxidised oxygen from 86 percent to 97 percent, while reducing the discharge cutoff voltage from 3.0 V to 2.0 V enabled oxygen to recover close to its initial state. LMR technology uses manganese as a primary cathode material and eliminates cobalt, while retaining high energy density. The research was published in Nature Communications.

DoGo Power Deploys Grid-Forming Energy Storage in Mali to Reduce Diesel Dependence

DoGo Power has entered Mali with grid-forming energy-storage systems designed for commercial, industrial and utility-scale applications, targeting a market where electricity access remains below 50 percent nationally and below 30 percent in rural areas. More than 80 percent of Mali’s electricity generation currently relies on diesel, while the country receives more than 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, creating substantial potential for solar-plus-storage systems. DoGo’s platform supports PV-storage-diesel hybrid configurations, allowing facilities and weak-grid locations to maintain critical loads during outages while reducing fuel consumption. The company said its first batch of equipment is arriving at port and it plans to establish local technical, service and operations-and-maintenance teams. Specific deployed MW/MWh capacity has not yet been disclosed.

Sinopec Advances 10-Million-Tonne CCUS Cluster With Shell, BASF and China Baowu

Sinopec and international partners have launched a new low-carbon energy cooperation initiative aimed at accelerating carbon capture, utilisation and storage technologies and standards. Sinopec is already operating China’s first integrated CCUS demonstration project with capacity of 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually and has built the country’s first 100-km dense-phase CO2 pipeline. It is conducting a joint study with Shell, BASF and China Baowu on China’s first open-access CCUS cluster at the 10-million-tonne scale, while preparing another 1-million-tonne demonstration project at Shengli Oilfield. The initiative was launched with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy, Nazarbayev University and the International CCUS Technology Innovation Cooperation Organization, which has 60 founding members from more than 20 countries and regions.
