Greenvolt Secures €218 Million for 400 MW / 1.6 GWh Polish Battery Portfolio

Greenvolt Group has secured a €218 million financing package from UniCredit for two large battery projects in northeastern Poland. The package consists of €153 million in bridge financing and a €65 million guarantee facility. The Ełk and Turośń Kościelna projects each provide 200 MW / 800 MWh, giving the portfolio combined capacity of 400 MW / 1.6 GWh and four-hour storage duration. Turośń Kościelna was inaugurated in July 2026, while Ełk is grid-connected and scheduled to enter commercial operation in Q4 2026. KKR-backed Greenvolt has a 12.8 GW European development portfolio, including about 5 GW of battery storage, and is also developing a 600 MW / 2.4 GWh BESS at Siedlce, potentially Poland’s largest once completed.

Sundern Wind Farm Reaches Halfway Mark With 6 of 12 Turbines Completed

Construction of the 66.7 MW Sundern wind farm in Germany’s Hochsauerland district has reached the halfway point in its first turbine-installation phase after completion of the sixth turbine. The project is being equipped with 12 Enercon E-160 EP5 E3 turbines, putting average installed capacity at roughly 5.6 MW per machine. The milestone indicates that civil works, turbine logistics and erection activities are progressing through the core construction phase. Large onshore wind developments such as Sundern are increasingly using higher-capacity turbines to generate more electricity with fewer foundations and grid connections. Completion of the remaining six turbines will move the project toward electrical commissioning and full operation, adding nearly 67 MW of renewable capacity to Germany’s rapidly expanding onshore wind fleet.

Ireland Solar Capacity Passes 3 GW as Peak Utility-Scale Output Exceeds 1.3 GW

Ireland’s installed solar capacity has surpassed 3 GW for the first time, covering residential rooftops, commercial systems and utility-scale solar farms. Utility-scale solar generation also set a fresh record above 1.3 GW, supplying approximately one-third of dispatchable electricity demand at peak. More than 200,000 Irish homes now have solar panels, while around 2,000 schools have received installations. Ireland had only about 2 MW of solar just over a decade ago, illustrating the speed of expansion. Renewable generation connected to the electricity network now exceeds 8 GW, including roughly 5 GW added during the past 10 years. The milestone increases requirements for batteries, flexible demand and grid investment capable of integrating rising midday photovoltaic production.

Axpo Signs 10-Year Belgian Wind vPPA Covering 45.5 GWh Annually Axpo has won a public tender from Flemish energy agency Vlaams Energiebedrijf, or veb, for its first public-sector virtual power purchase agreement in Belgium. The 10-year vPPA covers 45.5 GWh of Belgian onshore wind electricity annually and will support six public-sector organisations. Renewable generation will be supplied through Axpo’s long-term cooperation with Belgian wind producer Elicio. The contract gives participating public organisations greater electricity-price certainty while helping them meet decarbonisation objectives without directly owning wind assets. Over the full 10-year term, the agreement represents approximately 455 GWh of contracted renewable electricity. The deal demonstrates increasing use of corporate-style PPAs by governments, schools, hospitals and other public-sector electricity consumers seeking long-term renewable supply and protection against wholesale-market volatility.
