Google Signs PPA for 97.3 MW of Valorem Wind Capacity in Finland
Google has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with French renewable-energy developer Valorem covering 97.3 MW from the Matkussaari wind farm in Finland. The agreement will help supply renewable electricity for Google’s expanding digital infrastructure in the country. The contract adds another major corporate buyer to Finland’s wind sector and strengthens revenue visibility for Valorem’s project. Finland has become an increasingly important destination for data-centre investment because of its cooler climate, grid infrastructure and expanding renewable generation. Island Green Power Wins Approval for 500 MW Battery Storage Project in Scotland
Island Green Power has secured approval to develop a 500 MW battery energy storage system in Scotland. The project is designed to absorb surplus renewable electricity and release it when power demand or grid requirements increase, supporting system stability as Scotland adds more wind generation. At 500 MW, the scheme would rank among the larger standalone battery projects planned in the UK and represents a significant grid-flexibility investment. The regulatory approval is a material development because it moves the project beyond the planning stage toward construction and procurement. Masdar Targets Q3 2029 Commissioning for 1 GW Kazakhstan Wind Project
Masdar’s 1 GW wind project in Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl region is scheduled to be fully commissioned in the third quarter of 2029, according to Kazakhstan’s energy ministry. The development is one of the country’s largest planned renewable-energy projects and will combine large-scale wind generation with energy-storage capability. The project strengthens Masdar’s Central Asian expansion and supports Kazakhstan’s strategy to diversify its power system away from its heavy dependence on fossil fuels. At 1 GW, the wind farm will make a significant contribution to the country’s renewable capacity once operational.
