GIGA Storage Secures Grid Connection for 350 MW/1,400 MWh Albatross Battery in Germany
Dutch battery developer GIGA Storage has signed a grid connection agreement with German transmission operator Amprion for its 350 MW/1,400 MWh Albatross battery project in Lower Saxony. The agreement was signed on October 14, 2026, following the project’s achievement of ready-to-build status earlier in the month. The facility will connect directly to Amprion’s 380 kV transmission network near the Merzen substation in Neuenkirchen. The four-hour battery installation will comprise approximately 264 battery units. Commercial commissioning is planned for 2028. The project is being developed with Isenau Projects and will provide electricity storage and balancing capacity. It represents Amprion’s first grid connection agreement for a large-scale battery storage installation.
