Econergy Starts Commercial Operation of 70 MW / 141 MWh Romania Battery
Econergy has brought its 70 MW / 141 MWh Parau 1 battery energy storage system in Brașov, Romania, into commercial operation. The battery is located at Econergy’s Parau 1 solar project, creating an integrated solar-plus-storage asset capable of shifting renewable electricity between different periods of the day. The 141 MWh system can store excess solar generation and discharge it when electricity demand and prices are higher, while potentially providing grid-balancing services. Romania is emerging as a significant Central and Eastern European battery market as solar and wind deployment accelerates. Commercial operation represents an important milestone because the asset moves from development and construction into revenue generation. Econergy’s project also illustrates the growing European trend toward adding storage to existing or newly developed photovoltaic facilities.
Clean Hydrogen Investment Reaches $130 Billion Across 570 Projects
Committed global clean-hydrogen investment has surpassed $130 billion, representing 6.9 million tonnes per annum of capacity across more than 570 projects, according to the Hydrogen Council’s Global Hydrogen Compass 2026. Around 90 percent of committed capacity is under construction or already operating. Global operational capacity has nearly doubled over the past year and could double again next year. China accounts for more than half of committed renewable-hydrogen capacity and 90 percent of new operational capacity added since 2025. Europe recorded 35 percent investment growth, while the US represents around 75 percent of committed global low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia capacity. Existing policies could unlock 11 Mtpa of 2030 demand.
Air Products and RWE Sign Renewable Power Deal for Rotterdam Operations
Air Products and RWE have signed a long-term power purchase agreement to supply renewable electricity to Air Products’ existing operations in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The agreement will increase the use of renewable power at the industrial site while giving RWE a long-term corporate customer for its generation portfolio. Industrial PPAs are becoming increasingly important in Europe as manufacturers and energy-intensive businesses seek to reduce electricity-related emissions and improve visibility over long-term power costs. Rotterdam is one of Europe’s largest industrial and energy hubs, making renewable-electricity procurement particularly relevant to the region’s decarbonisation strategy. The deal also demonstrates how renewable developers are increasingly securing demand directly from industrial companies, complementing conventional utility sales and government-supported mechanisms while improving revenue certainty for renewable assets.
