First Solar photovoltaic (PV) solar modules

Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on GameChange Solar’s tracker deal, BSR’s deal with Centrica, Glamox’s wind farm, among others.

GameChange Solar Secures 1.25 GW Tracker Deal for Egypt’s Abydos II Solar Project

GameChange Solar has secured a landmark order to supply 1.25 GW of its Genius Tracker single-axis solar tracking systems for the Abydos II Solar Power Plant in Egypt, developed by UAE-based AMEA Power. Located in the Aswan region, the project will utilize GameChange’s advanced tracker technology to optimize solar energy capture by enabling panels to follow the sun’s path, increasing efficiency in Egypt’s high-irradiance desert environment. This is GameChange’s largest project to date in the MENA region and forms part of AMEA Power’s 2 GW renewable energy program in Egypt, which includes both solar and wind assets. Abydos II plays a key role in supporting Egypt’s Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy to generate 42 percent of its electricity from renewables by 2035 and contributes to the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement. The project also boosts local job creation, enhances energy security, attracts foreign investment, and advances Egypt’s decarbonization goals.

BSR signs route-to-market deal with Centrica for 462 MWp of UK solar projects

British Solar Renewables (BSR) has signed a route-to-market agreement with Centrica Energy to manage a portfolio of 462 MWp of subsidy-free solar capacity across seven sites in the UK. Under the agreement, Centrica will provide wholesale trading, balancing, and optimisation services, enabling BSR to participate in the electricity market without relying on government subsidies or Contracts for Difference (CfDs). The solar projects are scheduled for commissioning between 2024 and 2026 and are expected to make a significant contribution to the UK’s renewable energy and net-zero targets. The deal marks one of the largest unsubsidised solar portfolios in the UK and supports BSR’s strategic shift toward merchant and corporate PPA-led development models. By partnering with Centrica, BSR ensures bankability, risk management, and operational efficiency. Once live, the projects will produce enough clean electricity to power over 100,000 homes annually and strengthen the UK’s energy independence and carbon reduction efforts.

Glamox to Light Up Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm

Glamox, a Norwegian marine lighting specialist, has been contracted to supply LED lighting solutions for Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm—set to be the world’s largest, with a capacity of 2.9 GW. Located off the east coast of England, Hornsea 3 will power over 3 million UK homes and play a key role in achieving the UK’s net-zero targets. Glamox will provide energy-efficient, corrosion-resistant LED lighting for wind turbine platforms and offshore substations, designed to withstand the North Sea’s harsh conditions. The lighting supports safe operations, reduces energy use, and lowers maintenance needs. This contract reinforces Glamox’s strategic focus on sustainable marine and offshore infrastructure, while contributing to one of the most ambitious renewable energy projects in global offshore wind history.
