BC Hydro Prepares Tender for 100 MW Vancouver Island BESS
Canadian utility BC Hydro is preparing a competitive tender for a 100-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The planned project will be developed at the Dunsmuir substation near Qualicum Beach and is intended to strengthen electricity reliability and provide additional flexibility to the island’s power network. BC Hydro plans to issue a request for proposals to select a developer that will design, build, own and operate the battery facility. The BESS will help manage electricity demand, support grid stability and improve the utilisation of existing transmission infrastructure. GreenPoint, CleanCo Sign PPA for 600 MW Queensland Wind Project Australian renewable energy developer GreenPoint Energy has secured state-owned generator CleanCo Queensland as the power off-taker for its 600-MW Jackson North wind project in Queensland. The agreement represents a major commercial milestone for the development and will support progress toward construction and operation. Once developed, the large-scale wind farm will add substantial renewable generation capacity to Queensland’s electricity system, helping meet growing power demand while reducing reliance on fossil-fuel generation. The power purchase agreement provides long-term revenue certainty for the project while giving CleanCo access to additional renewable electricity for its customer portfolio.
