Vestas has reached 15 GW of installed capacity using its EnVentus onshore wind turbine platform, while firm orders for the technology have exceeded 24 GW. The milestone demonstrates growing deployment of Vestas’ modular turbine architecture across major wind markets. EnVentus was initially launched at a nominal output of 5.6 MW, but continued engineering and testing have increased power ratings across newer turbine configurations. In the UK, the V162-6.2 MW is currently the country’s most powerful operating onshore wind turbine. The combination of 15 GW already installed and more than 24 GW contracted provides Vestas with a substantial future installation pipeline. Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has secured a £46.5 million infrastructure contract for the 45 MW Carno 3 Wind Farm in Powys, Wales. The contract covers key civil infrastructure required to build the project, representing a significant construction milestone before turbine installation and commissioning. Civil works at onshore wind farms typically include access roads, turbine foundations, crane pads, drainage, electrical infrastructure and other site preparation required for heavy equipment. Carno 3 will expand renewable generation in Wales while generating construction activity for the regional supply chain. The ratio between the project’s 45 MW capacity and £46.5 million infrastructure package also highlights the substantial balance-of-plant investment required before turbines can generate electricity. PACE Wins Approval for 40 MW Lassington Solar and Battery Storage Project
Pathfinder Clean Energy has secured planning permission for the 40 MW Lassington Solar and Battery Energy Storage project in Gloucestershire, England. The development combines utility-scale photovoltaic generation with battery storage, allowing renewable electricity to be stored and dispatched when grid demand is stronger. The site has been designed to continue supporting agricultural activity throughout its operating life, including sheep grazing between solar panels, while the wider farm continues beef production. This dual-use approach is intended to address concerns over competition between renewable-energy development and agricultural land. Approval moves the 40 MW project toward construction and adds another solar-plus-storage development to the UK’s growing pipeline. Co-locating batteries can improve grid utilisation, reduce renewable curtailment and allow solar generation to contribute beyond daylight production periods.
