RES Australia Seeks Approval for 400MW Battery Project in Victoria

RES Australia has submitted plans for environmental approval of its 400MW/2400MWh Bunyip North Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Victoria’s Gippsland region, supporting Australia’s growing renewable energy transition. The six-hour battery project will connect to the existing 220kV transmission network and is designed to provide enough stored electricity to support more than 250,000 homes during peak demand periods.  The investment highlights innovation in large-scale battery storage technology aimed at improving grid stability, renewable energy integration, and long-duration energy supply. Located on agricultural land in Cardinia Shire, the project is expected to begin construction in 2027 and enter operation by 2029.  RES Australia stated that the project will strengthen energy security, support decarbonisation goals, and enhance electricity reliability across Victoria. The customer-focused initiative also aligns with Australia’s increasing demand for flexible, scalable, and sustainable energy infrastructure solutions.

PowerBank Expands New York Energy Storage Portfolio with 60 MWh Battery Projects

PowerBank has announced three new battery energy storage projects in upstate New York with a combined storage capacity of 60 MWh, strengthening its renewable energy portfolio in the United States. The projects are expected to support grid reliability, renewable energy integration, and growing electricity demand driven by electrification and data centers. PowerBank said the developments align with New York State’s clean energy targets, including plans for 6 GW of energy storage deployment by 2030. The company, which has already completed more than 100 MW of renewable energy projects and maintains a development pipeline exceeding 1 GW, continues to expand its presence in community solar and battery storage markets. The projects remain subject to permitting, interconnection approvals, and financing arrangements.
