Consultation Begins for 49.9MW Barrons Solar Farm in Nottinghamshire

Perigus Energy has launched a public consultation for the proposed 49.9MW Barrons Solar Farm near Burton Joyce in Nottinghamshire, England. The consultation will run from 11 May to 8 June 2026 ahead of a planned submission to Gedling Borough Council. The solar project is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power around 16,000 homes and will connect to the National Grid through the Gedling Substation using underground cabling. Perigus Energy said the development is intended to strengthen UK energy security by increasing domestic renewable generation and reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels. The selected site underwent assessments covering grid access, ecology, archaeology and landscape impact, with plans including biodiversity enhancement measures and environmental mitigation. An in-person public exhibition will also be held at Burton Joyce & Bulcote Village Hall to gather community feedback. The project highlights continued investment in UK solar infrastructure, supporting clean energy expansion, local community benefits and long-term decarbonisation goals.

Energy Vault and Eskom Partner on Gravity-Based Long-Duration Storage in South Africa

Energy Vault and Eskom have signed a strategic development agreement to deploy gravity-based long-duration energy storage systems in South Africa. The first project will be developed at the Hendrina Power Station in Mpumalanga province.  The initial facility is planned to deliver 25MW with four hours of storage capacity, equivalent to 100MWh, using Energy Vault’s EVx 2.0 gravity energy storage technology. The system is designed to be scalable up to 4GW as future deployments expand.  Under the agreement, Energy Vault will provide technology, engineering, equipment, project management and local training support. The companies also intend to co-develop up to 4GWh of gravity-based long-duration storage projects across the 16-member Southern African Development Community region by 2035.  The EVx platform stores energy by lifting and lowering large composite blocks using gravity, providing long-duration storage without the degradation associated with chemical batteries. The system also incorporates recycled coal ash into storage blocks, supporting waste reuse and circular economy objectives.  The partnership supports Eskom’s Just Energy Transition strategy by strengthening grid reliability, enabling higher renewable energy integration and supporting the gradual transition away from coal-fired generation while promoting local skills development and infrastructure investment.

JinkoSolar Secures 2GW Module Supply Deal for Abu Dhabi Mega Project

JinkoSolar has signed an agreement to supply 2GW of high-efficiency solar modules to Masdar for Abu Dhabi’s massive round-the-clock renewable energy project. The development combines 5.2GWdc of solar photovoltaic generation with 19GWh of battery energy storage capacity.  The project, jointly developed by Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company, is designed to provide 1GW of uninterrupted clean electricity 24 hours a day. Construction of the giga-scale complex began in late 2025 and is being positioned as one of the world’s largest integrated solar and storage developments.  Under the agreement, JinkoSolar will deliver its Tiger Neo modules based on N-type TOPCon technology, tailored for the project’s technical and performance requirements. The project also involves major industry players including JA Solar, CATL, Larsen & Toubro and PowerChina.  The deal highlights continued investment and innovation in giga-scale renewable energy and battery storage infrastructure, supporting energy security, grid stability and large-scale decarbonisation efforts in the Middle East.
