Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements from HD Renewable, Battman, Bausch + Lomb, among others.
HD Renewable and Tokyo Gas Partner on Japan Battery Projects
Taiwan-based HD Renewable Energy has partnered with Tokyo Gas to develop 340 MW of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Japan. The collaboration includes operational service agreements and long-term offtake arrangements, combining development expertise with energy market operations. Around 149 MW of projects in Aomori will begin operations by 2029, while additional projects across multiple regions are covered under long-term agreements. This initiative highlights innovation in large-scale energy storage and commercial models, improving grid flexibility and renewable integration. The customer-focused approach ensures stable and reliable energy supply through long-term usage agreements. The partnership reflects strong investment in Japan’s energy transition and supports scalable, sustainable power infrastructure growth.
Battman Secures Funding for Battery Storage Pipeline
Nordic battery developer Battman Energy has secured funding to advance its near-term pipeline of battery energy storage projects, targeting a total capacity of around 1 GWh. The financing will support the development and construction of multiple grid-scale storage sites, strengthening renewable energy integration across the region. This initiative highlights innovation in large-scale battery deployment, enabling efficient energy balancing and improved grid stability. The customer-focused approach ensures reliable electricity supply while supporting growing demand for flexible energy solutions. With a strong pipeline and strategic locations near key grid infrastructure, Battman is well positioned to scale operations efficiently. The investment reflects increasing momentum in energy storage markets, supporting long-term growth and accelerating the transition toward a more resilient and sustainable energy system.
Bausch + Lomb Expands Contact Lens Recycling Program with 119 Million Units Collected
Bausch + Lomb announced that its ONE by ONE Recycling program, developed with TerraCycle, has collected and recycled 119,715,074 units of used contact lenses and eye care materials in the United States, totaling 724,922 pounds. The initiative addresses a major waste challenge, as contact lenses and related plastics are typically not accepted in municipal recycling systems, with up to 10 metric tons entering wastewater annually. The program encourages eye care practices and patients to recycle responsibly while supporting sustainability goals. Participating locations also contribute to Optometry Giving Sight through donations based on shipments. A similar Canadian initiative has recycled over 78,269 pounds since 2019.
