Harmony Energy has energised the 35 MW / 70 MWh Skeeby battery energy storage system near Richmond in North Yorkshire and is preparing the facility for commercial operation. The two-hour BESS uses Tesla Megapack technology and can store renewable electricity during lower-demand periods before returning it to the grid when demand increases. Harmony says the stored electricity is equivalent to supplying around 120,000 homes for two hours. Skeeby is the first Harmony Energy project energised since Swiss energy company Alpiq made a strategic investment in the battery-storage developer. The investment is intended to support acceleration of Harmony’s wider UK and European storage pipeline. The project will help integrate wind and solar generation while providing flexibility, reducing curtailment and supporting UK grid stability.
