Today’s renewable energy news includes updates from GreenGo, Solar Ireland, US halts 165 onshore wind projects, among others.

US Halts 165 Onshore Wind Projects Over Security Concerns

The US Department of Defense has reportedly stalled approvals for around 165 onshore wind projects on private land, citing national security concerns. According to the Financial Times, the affected developments span multiple stages, including projects awaiting final sign-off, those under negotiation, and others that typically would not require defence review. The delayed projects could total nearly 30GW of capacity—enough to power around 15 million homes—highlighting the scale of potential impact on the US renewable sector. Developers have faced disruptions since August 2025, including halted application processing and cancelled meetings. The move reflects heightened scrutiny of wind projects near sensitive infrastructure and marks a significant policy shift affecting investment and deployment. It raises concerns over project timelines, energy transition goals, and long-term energy security in the United States.

GreenGo Secures Approval for Canalicchi Agrivoltaic Project in Italy

GreenGo Energy has received Single Regional Authorisation (PAUR) for the 19.5MW Canalicchi agrivoltaic project in Crotone province, Italy. The project, developed by Solux S.r.l., will be built across Crotone and Scandale, with construction and commissioning planned for the first half of 2028. The project reflects continued investment in Italy’s renewable sector and strengthens GreenGo’s growing 360MW pipeline in Calabria. It will use single-axis tracker technology to optimise solar generation, producing around 36GWh annually—enough to power approximately 13,300 households while avoiding over 17,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The initiative highlights innovation in agrivoltaics, combining energy production with agricultural use. It delivers customer-focused benefits including sustainable land use, enhanced energy security, and long-term environmental and economic value for local communities.

Solar Ireland Calls for ‘Clearing House’ to Accelerate Projects

Solar Ireland has urged the Irish government to establish a national “clearing house” to speed up renewable energy deployment, citing delays in planning and grid processes. The proposed mechanism would coordinate across authorities, industry and grid operators to identify bottlenecks, resolve issues in real time, and ensure consistent decision-making. The call follows strong market momentum, with Ireland’s solar output recently exceeding 1GW and peaking at 1.2GW, demonstrating growing capacity and investment potential. However, the organisation warns that administrative inefficiencies are slowing project delivery despite this progress. The initiative highlights the need for policy innovation and streamlined processes to support customer-focused outcomes, improve transparency, and accelerate clean energy rollout. It also calls for clearer long-term targets beyond 2030 to strengthen energy security and sustainability.
