The latest renewable energy news includes announcements on Globeleq, Nala Renewables, Cox, NTPC Green, Kafue Solar project in Zambia, and others.
Globeleq Reaches $52.1 Million Financial Close for 56 MWp Zambia Solar Project
Globeleq has reached financial close on the Kafue Solar project in Zambia, comprising two adjacent plants totalling 40 MWac/56 MWp near Kafue Town in Lusaka Province. FMO and British International Investment committed $52.1 million of long-term project finance, comprising $27.6 million from FMO and $24.5 million from BII. Standard Bank South Africa is security trustee. Globeleq owns 100 percent of the project and will manage construction, operations and maintenance. Electricity will be sold to ZESCO under a 25-year PPA. Kafue Solar is expected to generate approximately 123 GWh annually, with first electricity targeted for October 2027.
Nala Renewables Acquires 100 MW Ready-to-Build Finland Battery Project
Nala Renewables has acquired the 100 MW Kärppiö battery energy storage project in Teuva, South Ostrobothnia, Finland, from Swiss renewable developer Fu-Gen. The ready-to-build project is the third Finnish battery asset Nala has purchased from Fu-Gen under a framework agreement established in October 2025, following the 50 MW Kauhava project and 125 MW Vuolijoki project. The latest acquisition increases Nala’s Finnish battery pipeline sourced from Fu-Gen to 275 MW/550 MWh. Construction of Kärppiö is expected to begin later in 2026. Fu-Gen intends to recycle proceeds into its Nordic wind and storage development portfolio, while Nala is expanding its position in Finland’s fast-growing ancillary-services and grid-balancing market.
Cox Secures Financing for 75.2 MWp Chiquimulilla Solar Project in Guatemala
Spanish infrastructure group Cox has secured financing for the 75.2 MWp Chiquimulilla solar project in Guatemala’s Santa Rosa department. The photovoltaic plant will be developed in two phases and is expected to generate approximately 167,600 MWh of renewable electricity annually. The project is backed by 15-year PPAs with Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala and Distribuidora de Electricidad de Occidente, awarded through Guatemala’s PEG-4 long-term power procurement programme. The tender requires at least half of contracted guaranteed capacity to come from renewable generation. Chiquimulilla will rank among Guatemala’s larger photovoltaic projects and adds another financed solar development to Cox’s Central American renewable-energy portfolio.
NTPC Green Completes 300 MW Solar Component of Rajasthan Round-the-Clock Project
NTPC Green Energy has placed another 50 MW of solar capacity into commercial operation in Rajasthan, completing the cumulative 300 MW solar component associated with a 200 MW renewable-energy round-the-clock project. The latest 50 MW tranche entered commercial operation at midnight on October 2 through Project Sixteen Renewable Power, a step-down subsidiary of ONGC NTPC Green. Earlier tranches included 150 MW commissioned in April and subsequent 50 MW blocks. The latest addition increases NTPC Green Energy group’s commercial operating capacity to approximately 11,262.51 MW. The project forms part of the joint renewable-development platform established between NTPC Green Energy and India’s state-controlled oil and gas producer ONGC.
