ENGIE and NHOA Begin Construction of 320MWh Battery Storage Project in Belgium

ENGIE and NHOA Energy have started construction of the 80MW/320MWh Drogenbos Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) near Brussels, marking one of the largest battery storage projects in the Benelux region. The innovative facility will use NHOA’s advanced NHEXUS platform with 88 battery containers capable of delivering up to four hours of electricity discharge, helping stabilize Belgium’s power grid and support higher renewable energy integration. The customer-focused project will enhance grid reliability, improve energy flexibility, reduce renewable curtailment, and provide clean electricity support equivalent to the daily consumption of more than 38,000 households. Awarded under Belgium’s Capacity Remuneration Mechanism, the project includes a 15-year supply agreement beginning in 2027. The development also strengthens ENGIE and NHOA’s long-term partnership in advanced battery storage infrastructure supporting Europe’s energy transition and decarbonisation goals.

Europe Records 966MW of Renewable PPA Activity in April, Says Pexapark

Europe’s renewable energy market recorded 966MW of publicly announced power purchase agreement (PPA) activity across 17 deals in April, according to Pexapark’s latest market analysis. The report highlights growing innovation in renewable energy contracting, including hybrid solar-plus-storage agreements and cross-border virtual PPAs that improve energy flexibility and long-term price stability. The largest deal was a 326MW hydropower agreement between Hydro Energi and Statkraft, while battery storage contracting remained strong with 800MW/2.8GWh of BESS-related agreements announced during the month. Customer-focused benefits of rising PPA adoption include improved renewable energy access, predictable electricity pricing, enhanced energy security, and reduced carbon emissions for businesses and utilities. Pexapark also noted increasing integration of battery storage technologies to support grid reliability and renewable optimisation as Europe accelerates its clean energy transition and strengthens sustainable power infrastructure across multiple markets.

Respect Energy Secures Financing for 255MWp Solar and Battery Portfolio in Poland

Polish renewable energy company Respect Energy has secured financing for a major 255MWp solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage portfolio in Poland, supporting the country’s accelerating clean energy transition. The large-scale development combines advanced solar generation with battery storage technology to improve grid flexibility, renewable energy integration, and long-term electricity reliability. The project highlights innovation in hybrid renewable infrastructure by enabling stored solar power to be delivered during peak demand periods, reducing curtailment and enhancing operational efficiency. Customer-focused benefits include improved energy security, lower carbon emissions, stable green electricity supply, and better long-term energy price stability for businesses and consumers. Respect Energy continues to strengthen its renewable energy leadership in Poland through investments in solar, energy storage, balancing services, and long-term power purchase agreements. The financing also reflects growing investor confidence in Poland’s expanding renewable energy and battery storage market.
