EnBW Takes FID on 400-MW Philippsburg BESS in Germany

EnBW has taken a final investment decision (FID) on its 400-MW / 800-MWh battery energy storage system at the former Philippsburg nuclear power plant site in Baden-Württemberg. Set to become one of Germany’s largest BESS projects, the system will use state-of-the-art lithium-ion technology to deliver fast balancing, frequency control, and grid-stabilisation services as renewable generation grows. The investment supports EnBW’s strategy to expand flexible infrastructure and repurpose legacy energy sites for clean-energy use. The project enhances security of supply, reduces curtailment, and integrates more solar and wind into the grid. Construction is planned to start in 2025, with the BESS expected to provide long-term consumer benefits through improved reliability and more efficient renewable utilisation.

Vena Picks CATL Batteries to Back Indonesia–Singapore PV Power Exports

Vena Energy has selected CATL battery technology to support its large-scale solar export initiative linking Indonesia and Singapore. The batteries will provide long-duration, utility-scale energy storage to stabilise output from the company’s planned photovoltaic facilities in Indonesia, enabling reliable cross-border clean-power delivery to Singapore. The system will help smooth intermittency, enhance grid resilience, and support round-the-clock renewable supply for customers. The storage deployment forms a core part of Vena’s regional strategy to build integrated solar-plus-storage infrastructure across Southeast Asia. By partnering with CATL, Vena leverages advanced lithium-ion technology known for high efficiency and durability. The project strengthens regional decarbonisation goals, delivers economic benefits, and showcases innovation in long-distance renewable-energy trading.

Toki Power Acquires 150-MW Battery Project in Romania

Toki Power has acquired a 150-MW battery energy storage project in Romania, strengthening its strategy to expand flexible clean-energy assets in Central and Eastern Europe. The project will deploy advanced lithium-ion technology to support grid stability, reduce renewable curtailment, and deliver fast-response balancing services as Romania accelerates wind and solar deployment. The investment marks a significant step in Toki Power’s growth plans, giving the company a foothold in a rapidly developing storage market backed by EU energy-transition targets. For consumers, the project will enhance reliability and enable more efficient integration of low carbon electricity. The acquisition also positions Toki Power to participate in future capacity and ancillary-services markets, reinforcing long term value and supporting regional decarbonisation efforts.

ENGIE and NHOA Partner on 320-MWh Belgian Battery Project

ENGIE and NHOA Energy have partnered to develop a 320-MWh battery energy storage project in Belgium, advancing the country’s strategy to strengthen grid flexibility as renewable penetration grows. The project will use high-efficiency lithium-ion technology and NHOA’s smart energy-management systems to deliver fast balancing, frequency regulation, and peak-shaving services. The investment supports ENGIE’s customer-focused approach to providing reliable, low-carbon energy solutions, while enhancing Belgium’s security of supply. The partnership highlights innovation in large-scale storage integration, combining utility expertise with advanced optimisation software. Once operational, the system will reduce congestion, support renewable integration, and deliver long-term economic and environmental benefits for consumers and the national grid.
