CATL Unveils Shenxing: World’s First 4C Superfast Charging LFP Battery Revolutionizes Electric Vehicle Industry

CATL LFP battery Shenxing

In a groundbreaking development for the electric vehicle (EV) sector, Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) has introduced Shenxing, the world’s inaugural 4C superfast charging Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. Capable of delivering an impressive 400 km of driving range with a mere 10-minute charge, this innovation promises to quell fast charging concerns for EV owners while heralding a new era of EV superfast charging.

The Launch Event

Wu Kai, Chief Scientist of CATL, articulated the significance of aligning EV battery technology with global frontiers while also ensuring its economic viability during the launch event. Speaking passionately about the need to democratize advanced technology, Wu Kai emphasized the transition of EV consumers from pioneers to regular users and the company’s commitment to making innovation accessible to all.

Technological Advancements

CATL’s remarkable success in swiftly translating laboratory innovations into market-ready products has enabled the rapid mass production of the Shenxing battery. Gao Huan, CTO of CATL’s China E-car Business, revealed ambitious plans, announcing that mass production of the Shenxing battery would be achieved by the year’s end, with EVs equipped with this revolutionary power source hitting the market in the first quarter of the following year.

The Shenxing battery tackles the challenge of charging anxiety through a series of cutting-edge technological advancements.

Employing the super electronic network cathode technology and nano-crystallized LFP cathode material, Shenxing establishes a super electronic network that facilitates swift lithium ion extraction and a rapid response to charging signals.

CATL’s second-generation fast ion ring technology modifies graphite surfaces, enhancing intercalation channels and shortening the distance for lithium ions, creating a high-speed conduit for current conduction. A multi-gradient layered electrode design strikes an optimal balance between quick charging and extended range.

A novel superconducting electrolyte formula with decreased viscosity enhances electrolyte conductivity. Additionally, the ultra-thin solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) film is improved to lower lithium-ion movement resistance.

A high-porosity separator with lowered transmission resistance for lithium ions optimizes overall charging efficiency.

Beyond its 4C superfast charging capabilities, Shenxing attains exceptional performance across several dimensions:

Leveraging an all-in-one grouping technology alongside integrated crossbeam and end plates, Shenxing achieves an unprecedented range of over 700 km, surpassing the conventional limits of LFP chemistry.

Shenxing’s versatility shines as it maintains normal charging rates even in frigid temperatures. The battery can charge to 80 percent state of charge (SOC) in 10 minutes at room temperature and exhibits an astonishing 0-80 percent charge in just 30 minutes at temperatures as low as -10°C.

CATL prioritizes safety through an upgraded electrolyte and a separator featuring a highly secure coating. Intelligent algorithms regulate the global temperature inside cells, ensuring safety during fast charging. A real-time fault testing system further guarantees the Shenxing battery’s high safety standards.

CATL’s Shenxing battery marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of EV technology, shattering the barriers of charging speed, range, and safety. With its imminent market introduction, the electric vehicle landscape is poised to undergo a transformative shift, catering to both early adopters and mainstream consumers.
