The latest renewable energy news includes announcements on Iberdrola, RWE, Ecowende, Serra Palino onshore wind farm in Italy, and others.
Iberdrola and Norges Bank Expand Renewable Energy Joint Venture Beyond 1.8 GW with Portuguese Wind Project
Spanish utility Iberdrola and Norges Bank Investment Management have added the 274 MW Tâmega wind project in Portugal to their renewable-energy joint venture. Announced November 2, the transaction increases the platform’s combined renewable capacity beyond 1.8 GW. The partnership represents more than €2 billion in renewable-energy investment across the Iberian Peninsula. Earlier portfolio additions included the 330 MW Caparacena solar project in Granada and 316 MW Ciudad Rodrigo solar facility in Salamanca. The partners expect the platform to expand toward 2.3 GW during 2027. The Tâmega wind project is already operational. The announcement concerns the transfer of an existing asset into the investment platform rather than new electricity generation capacity.
RWE Commissions 47.2 MW Serra Palino Wind Farm in Italy, Expanding Portfolio to 670 MW
German energy company RWE has commissioned the 47.2 MW Serra Palino onshore wind farm in Italy’s Apulia region. Announced November 2, the project comprises eight turbines rated at 5.9 MW each. Located in Sant’Agata di Puglia and Candela in Foggia province, the facility was completed less than one year after construction began. Annual electricity generation is expected to match consumption by approximately 40,000 Italian households. The commissioning increases RWE’s installed renewable-energy capacity in Italy to approximately 670 MW. Its operating Italian portfolio now includes 18 onshore wind farms, one conventional solar installation and three agrivoltaic plants. Another 200 MW of wind and solar capacity is under construction.
Ecowende Completes Installation of All 52 Turbines at 760 MW
Dutch Offshore Wind Farm Ecowende has completed installation of all 52 wind turbines at its 760 MW Hollandse Kust West offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. The final turbine was installed October 30, with the milestone announced November 2. The project is located approximately 53 kilometres offshore from IJmuiden and uses Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines. Van Oord transported the turbines using its Boreas installation vessel. First electricity generation began in July 2026, while full commercial operation is targeted before the end of 2026. The project is jointly developed by Shell, Eneco and Chubu Electric Power. Once fully operational, it is expected to generate electricity equivalent to approximately 3 percent of Dutch electricity demand.
