Photon Capital Starts Commercial Operation of 33 MW Solar Portfolio Across Japan

Japanese renewable-energy investor Photon Capital has commenced commercial operation of approximately 33 MWdc of photovoltaic capacity across 13 solar plants in Japan. The milestone was reported October 19. The portfolio is owned through Photon Sustainable PV Investment LP and supported by two virtual power purchase agreements. Six facilities in the Chubu and Shikoku regions supply renewable electricity attributes to automotive technology company JTEKT. Seven additional plants in Hokkaido, Tohoku and Chugoku serve another Japanese manufacturer. J-POWER acts as electricity aggregator, while ORIX Bank provided non-recourse, fixed-rate project financing. Photon Capital developed all 13 installations. The company is negotiating additional corporate agreements involving more than 150 million kWh of annual electricity generation.

SSE Commissions 17.3 MW Microsoft-Contracted Wind Farm in Italy

British energy company SSE has started commercial operation of its first onshore wind farm in Italy, the 17.3 MW Castel Favorito and Masseria la Cattiva project in Puglia. Announced October 19, the installation comprises five wind turbines and is exporting electricity to the local grid. The company signed a long-term corporate power purchase agreement with Microsoft in 2024 and started construction in early 2025. SSE now operates approximately 109 MW of onshore wind capacity across Southern Europe, with another 55 MW under construction at three sites in Spain and Italy. The company also maintains a secured Italian onshore wind development pipeline exceeding 600 MW. Investment value was not disclosed.

I-Grid Begins Renewable Electricity Supply to Volkswagen Japan Under Solar PPA

Japanese electricity technology company I-Grid Solutions has commenced renewable-electricity deliveries to Volkswagen Group Japan under an off-site solar power purchase agreement. Announced October 19, the contract covers Volkswagen’s Toyohashi Head Office and Toyohashi Import Centre in Aichi Prefecture. I-Grid expects to supply approximately 4.6 GWh of renewable electricity annually, covering the facilities’ entire electricity demand under the arrangement. The company estimates annual emissions avoidance of approximately 2,053 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Electricity is sourced through I-Grid’s Circular Electricity platform, which aggregates generation from rooftop photovoltaic installations across Japan. The arrangement allows Volkswagen to procure renewable electricity without constructing solar facilities at its own sites. Contract duration and electricity pricing were not disclosed.
