Hithium Wins 421 MWh Battery Order for Queensland’s Fraser Coast Project
Hithium has signed an agreement with Global Power Generation (GPG), part of the Naturgy Group, to supply a 421 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Fraser Coast project in Queensland, Australia. Hithium will deliver 84 liquid-cooled BESS units equipped with grid-forming capabilities, along with design, testing and site-support services. The battery forms part of a hybrid project combining 330 MW of solar PV with a 180 MW battery, using an AC-coupled configuration connected to the solar plant’s 33 kV switchgear. The system will provide energy arbitrage and Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) to support grid stability and operational flexibility. The agreement marks Hithium’s first partnership with GPG and strengthens its growing Australian presence.
GSU Unveils 50 MW Solar Plant with Battery Storage in Central African Republic
Global South Utilities (GSU), an Abu Dhabi-based energy infrastructure developer, has inaugurated its 50 MW Sakaï solar photovoltaic project in the Central African Republic (CAR), marking a major step in expanding the country’s renewable power capacity. The project includes a 10 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) designed to improve grid stability and provide a more reliable electricity supply. The facility is expected to provide clean electricity to more than 300,000 households and avoid over 50,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. The Sakaï project forms part of the growing energy partnership between the UAE and Central African Republic and is intended to support economic development, energy access and local renewable-energy growth. GSU’s investment also highlights the increasing role of solar-plus-storage projects in addressing electricity shortages across Africa.
Limes Advances 1 GWh Huanil Battery Project to Ready-to-Build Stage
Limes Renewable Energy has reached ready-to-build (RTB) status for its Huanil Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Chile, marking a major milestone in the company’s Latin American expansion. The project will feature 200 MW/1,000 MWh of battery storage, providing approximately five hours of energy-shifting capability to support Chile’s grid and integrate renewable generation. The milestone follows environmental approval for the project and advances Limes toward construction financing, procurement and commercial agreements. Martin Libra, Head of LATAM at Limes, said the achievement demonstrates the company’s ability to develop large-scale storage projects in Chile. Limes’ Chilean pipeline now totals approximately 180 MWp of solar PV and 620 MW of BESS, while its global development pipeline stands at around 6 GW across Italy, Sweden, the US, Chile, Vietnam and Indonesia.
