RWE has strengthened its presence in the Italian renewable energy sector with the commissioning of its 53.1 MW Mondonuovo onshore wind farm in the Apulia region.

The project, comprising nine 5.9 MW turbines, can generate green electricity for up to 55,000 Italian households, contributing to the country’s energy transition goals. The commissioning underscores RWE’s long-term commitment to expanding sustainable energy infrastructure in Italy.

The investment in Mondonuovo is part of RWE’s broader strategy to scale its clean energy portfolio across Europe. With this latest addition, the company now operates 17 wind farms and one solar plant in Italy, reaching a combined installed capacity of 589 MW — enough to power over 500,000 households.

RWE follows an integrated project model, encompassing development, construction, operation, and power marketing, which enhances speed to market and project reliability.

Looking ahead, RWE is actively developing additional projects to solidify its role in Italy’s green energy transition.

It is currently constructing two advanced Agri-PV plants —Morcone (9.8 MWac) and Acquafredda (9.3 MWac)— in Campania.

Furthermore, RWE secured contracts for the 45 MW Venusia and 48 MW Serra Palino wind farms through Italy’s FER1 auction. Construction of both wind farms is slated to begin soon.
