Pattern Energy has closed acquisition of one-third interest in the 270-megawatt K2 wind power facility in Ontario.
The share is being acquired from Pattern’s subsidiary Pattern Energy Group, or Pattern Development. Pattern Energy is to hold 33 percent equity interest in the facility, which is equally co-owned by Samsung Renewable Energy and Capital Power.
Mike Garland, the president and CEO of Pattern Energy said the acquisition takes the total installed capacity of operations in Canada to 430 megawatts.
K2 Wind is one of the largest wind power facilities in Canada and its peak output is adequate to meet average power requirements of 100,000 homes annually.
The wind project located in the township Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, southwestern Ontario, comprises 140 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines and operates under a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
K2 Wind was completed earlier this month after 18 months of construction.
Components for the project were manufactured in Ontario. The 700 turbine tower sections used in the project were produced in Windsor by CS Wind while the 420 blades used therein were built in Tillsonburg.
Further K2 Wind project is to deliver $15 million under a community benefits fund agreement with Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh over the next 20 years. The project is expected to support residents living near the facility through lease agreements and other benefits.
Pattern Energy has a portfolio of 16 wind power facilities with a total owned interest of 2,112 MW, in the United States, Canada and Chile that use proven, best-in-class technology.
