Indian Govt. PSUs set up wind projects with 711.45 MW capacity

Greentech Lead India: India government-run companies have set up wind projects with total capacity of 711.45 MW across the country.

Farooq Abdullah, minister for New & Renewable Energy, says the NTPC had signed an MoU with the Kerala Government in 2011-12 for setting up 200 MW wind power capacity in Kerala.

The NTPC signed an agreement with the Karnataka Government in 2009-10 for establishing 100 MW wind power capacity in Karnataka.

According to the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), a total wind power capacity of 711 MW has already been installed in the country by PSUs.

The wind power projects in the country are installed by private sectors.  The local population in the area of project site is involved in terms of providing land for installation of the project.  Local population also get employment in various activities related with the projects, according to the minister.
