Gamesa has maintained its top position for the consecutive second year for the highest number of grid connected wind turbine installations in India for 2014, according to Make Consulting firm analysis.

The second and third position has been won by Suzlon and Wind World India respectively.

In 2014, Gamesa added about 2,300 MW of wind energy in India, around 27 percent higher than 2013 when 1,800 MW was added.

In addition, Gamesa was responsible for quarter of all grid connected installations with a market share of 25 percent in 2014.

Meanwhile, Suzlon and Wind World India achieved 21 percent and 15 percent share respectively.

This year Gamesa plans to add 1,000MW wind installations in India this year, according to company sources.

In another initiative, Gamesa plans to team up with Areva for expanding its offshore wind portfolio.

The joint venture will combine the expertise of both Gamesa and Areva to create Adwen, which will be responsible for the design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and services of offshore wind turbines.

The company will be jointly owned by the two companies, and will start with a 2.8 GW project pipeline, with an aim to acquire 20 percent of the European market share by 2020.

Over the next decade, in the coastal countries of northern Europe, Gamesa aims to have an installed base of up to 25 GW by 2020 through this JV.

However, for Asian countries Gamesa is confident that with the huge offshore wind potential of this region 17 GW of installed capacity by 2020 can be achieved.

Adwen will offer the Adwen 8MW platform, which is expected to reach serial production in 2018.

The AD 8 MW is expected to create a milestone in offshore wind with its 1GW project pipeline.

The Adwen 5MW platform will offer two complementary 5 MW turbines available for immediate projects: the AD 5-135 and AD 5-132.

The AD 5-135 is AREVA’s 5MW technology with an installed base of 650 MW which will reach 1GW with Wikinger wind farm installation.

The AD 5-132, developed by Gamesa will complement the product portfolio with a competitive turbine.
