Enel Green Power to invest $56 mn in Indian new energy sector

Enel Green Power plans to invest about €50 million ($56 million) in Indian renewable energy sector. The company has been in negotiations with Indian wind developer Bharat Light & Power (BLP), which is developing about 170 megawatts capacity, as part of its plans for the country.

“India is at the center of the Asian market, it’s the country that right now is making the greatest efforts to support investments in renewables. Our presence in India will be a base from which we’ll look toward the rest of south-eastern Asia,” Francesco Venturini the CEO of EGP told Il Sole24ore.

According to Venturini, EGP is focusing on solar photovoltaic tenders are being launched by the Indian government. “We’ll enter cautiously, without excessive risks and it’s not sure that EGP’s first plant will be solar,” Venturini added.
