EDF EN Canada and Enbridge dedicated the 300 MW Blackspring Ridge Wind Project.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Energy Minister; Diana McQueen, Reeve of Vulcan County; Derrick Annable and Mayor of Carmangay; Kim Nichols along with EDF EN Canada and Enbridge officials.

The wind project is located in Vulcan County, Alberta.

Construction of the 166 turbine, $0.6 billion investment project was commenced in May 2013. The project can generate clean energy to meet the electricity needs of 140,000 homes.

Speaking on the development, Diana McQueen, energy minister Alberta, said, “The Blackspring Ridge project is a joint effort between industry and government that demonstrates Alberta’s commitment to renewable energy. The Government offers all support to Blackspring Ridge, to work together for a green grid in Alberta.”

Derrick Annable, Reeve, Vulcan County, said, “Through this project local job opportunities have come up. This indirect benefit is a contributor to the local economy. Around 350 jobs will be created for construction and another 20 for permanent jobs.”

Expressing his remarks on the project, Tristan Grimbert, president, CEO, EDF EN North America, said, “This project is the result of a dedicated team effort with the involvement of the locals. The team completed the project within a year by setting a standard for being ahead of schedule, and on budget.”

Richard Bird, chief financial officer, Enbridge, commented, “Enbridge has been investing in Alberta’s energy infrastructure for over 60 years, and through this investment Alberta’s renewable energy supply is ensured. Enbridge has developed a less carbon-intensive energy mix to meet future demands considering the environment impact.”

In further development, Vestas officials confirmed that EDF EN Canada and Enbridge have selected their V100-1.8MW turbines for the project.

In addition, Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC) have offered a $10 million for Blackspring Ridge project. Blackspring Ridge will help Enbridge meet its Neutral Footprint commitment to generate a kilowatt of renewable energy for every additional kilowatt of conventional electricity consumed.
