Ecotricity, the green energy provider is launching Britwind, a new firm to design and manufacture British windmills, reducing the cost of production almost to half in Gloucestershire, reports StroudLife.

Ecotricity founder Dale Vince decided to save Evance Wind when it entered administration in May as he has realized the potential of a new windmill design which had almost completed by 90 percent.

Ecotricity already owns a vertical-axis turbine, the Urbine going through a similar stage of development.

At present, both windmill designs are going through final accreditation under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

They will be launched in market next year under the Britwind banner.

A factory has been purchased in Gloucestershire and Britwind will provide designing, manufacturing, gaining planning permission, installing and maintaining the turbines in addition to selling excess electricity produced.

Evance accused a cut in feed-in tariffs for agitating investors and subsequent administration.
