ABB has expanded into the wind power sector in China by signing a contract with the Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) for installing offshore booster stations.
Offshore booster stations are prime component for offshore wind power facilities that can boost power to 110 kilowatts and 220 kW and transmit power to an onshore electric power centralized control-center.

Currently, China has no such facilities.
China installs 30 new wind power units per day and the wind power and the total installed wind power capacity in China has reached 100 million kW.

Right now, country plans to ramp up its total installed wind power capacity to 200 million kW by 2020. As the biggest global wind power market, China has continued to attract international interest to its industry.
China’s installed wind power capacity will touch 100 million kW by the end of 2014, a year ahead of the targeted one as outlined in 12th Five-Year Economic Development Plan, said, Zhu Ming, deputy director, new energy and renewable energy department, National Energy Administration.

Even as China’s new energy market continues to be promoted by policymakers, its installed wind power capacity had already hit 83 million kW by the end of August, Zhu said.
ABB predicts Chinese wind market as a key market and the collaboration with ZPMC is part of its efforts to further reach out to the Chinese wind power market.
