Welspun completes 34-MW solar power project in Punjab

Welspun Renewables has completed its first solar power project in Punjab. It has commissioned the 34 megawatt direct current project in Bhatinda.

Completed in five months, the project is expected to produce 48 million units of clean energy annually and prevent emission of 1,331,525 tons of greenhouse gases.

Output from the project, which is laid out over 140 acres, is to be fed into the Punjab state grid for 25 years.

In the auction that the state organized for developing solar capacity, Welspun was among the top two companies that won bids for the highest capacities, renewableenergyfocus.com reports. Punjab has set itself the target of 4.2 gigawatts of solar power development by 2022.
