Greentech Lead America: Vivint Solar CEO Tanguy Serra has stepped down. The company has appointed Alex Dunn as interim CEO.

Serra however will continue in his advisory role.

After announcing the resignation, Serra said, “I have decided that it is time for me to step away from the day-to-day operations of the business.

“I’m grateful to all of our customers, partners, investors and most of all employees for the support and commitment they have given to Vivint Solar,” Serra added. “I remain committed to the company and look forward to continuing to serve in my advisory capacity.”

Dunn currently serves as president for Vivint and has been with the company for seven years.

Since its establishment in October 2011, Vivint Solar has grown to more than 600 employees, expanded into six states with close to 6,000 customers, and is averaging more than 32 new installations each day. Vivint Solar is generating 4.5MW/month in just 20 months of operations.

The company has been ranked the second largest solar installer and one of the fastest-growing residential solar providers in the U.S.

In November 2012 Vivint Solar ranked No. 2 in the highest number of photovoltaic (PV) permit applications issued on Oahu this past summer by the Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting.

From May through August, Vivint Solar was the designated contractor on more than 800 PV permits issued by the department. On Maui, 54 PV permits were submitted with Vivint Solar as the designated contractor during the same period.

Vivint Solar has managed to overtake Hawaii-based solar energy titans RevoluSun and Sunetric in sales, at least in the first two months of 2013.

Tanguy has been instrumental for the growth of Vivint solar, according to Dunn.

“Tanguy has helped us build an amazing business, and we are grateful for all of his hard work and dedication. Vivint Solar is what it is today because of his leadership,” said Dunn.
