Greentech Lead India: SunEdison, a solar energy services
provider and subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials, has completed 25 MW solar
photovoltaic power plant in Gujarat, India.
With the completion of this plant, SunEdison has now
activated a total of 45 MW as part of the Gujarat Solar Program.
The project construction was completed in four months.
The project is comprised of more than 89,000 solar PV modules and expected to
produce more than 40 million kilowatt hours of clean solar energy in the first
year.Â
The 25 MW solar power plant was inaugurated by the Chief
Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, on April 19, 2012.
“SunEdison takes pride in being an active contributor to
the largest solar power producing state in India. Owing to the state’s
progressive solar policies, we are confident we can help make Gujarat the
national solar hub for India,” said Pashupathy Gopalan, managing director,
South Asia and Sub-Saharan Operations, SunEdison.Â
The multi-facility solar park is currently home to
approximately 200 MW of solar power generation capacity. Gujarat government boasted
it is the first-ever project in Asia to address the problems of climate
change. The solar park was established as a part of the state government’s
new solar policy. The 25MW project is partially owned by SunEdison.
