Smart city transportation to be guided by HERE maps

HERE, provider of navigation, mapping and location services has announced two new research collaborations with the SWARCO and the Oakland County Connected Vehicle Task Force (OCCV).

In partnership with the intelligent transportation service, HERE is displaying technologies that can enable a safe conveyance as well as tension-free parking.

During ITS World Congress held in Detroit this week, HERE will showcase how these technologies will help to renovate road networks and transportation facilities.

Lots of vehicles and high congestion are the common problem in cities, which can be minimized with modern technologies, said, Ogi Redzic, vice president, Connected Driving, HERE.

The two demonstrations, organized in Detroit next week, will explain how the HERE location cloud can be integrated with smart new technology to help cities with better driving experiences.

At ITS World Congress, HERE and SWARCO will exhibit how with the help of technology cities like Rome can control, calculate and manage traffic flows.

With the help of SWARCO’s next generation traffic management solution, traffic signal and sensor data combined with HERE probe data, will aid in better traffic judgment and control of vehicle stream. The HERE location cloud can use this data to assist intelligent services to optimize new driving guidelines.

ITS World Congress participants can view a booth display of traffic in Rome and analyze how the services of HERE and SWARCO can improve traffic situations.

SWARCO is committed to inspiring people’s mobility experience through the use of technology enhanced with sustainable services. This partnership with HERE will provide the traffic management and control systems to improve by exploiting the opportunity to interact with the vehicles and address the road users on highlighting the safety, efficiency and comfort, said, Cees De Wijs, CEO, SWARCO.

HERE will also display an alternate and fail-proof method keeping exact positioning in parts of a city where there is no GPS coverage.

Oakland County Connected Vehicle Task Force (OCCV) and Paxgrid, have announced their support for the exhibition and HERE will demonstrate how this technology can provide location positioning of a vehicle with the use of two roadside boxes known as WAVE DSRC units.

HERE is providing its maps for the technology, which has the ability to know where other drivers are resulting in safer roads and fewer collisions. It could also help drivers overcome problems like finding parking spaces.

The technology consist of the potential to be a major part of future vehicle systems, which on positioning can enable vehicles to be part of a grid of moving objects.
