Greentech Lead Team: Longhorn Solar announced that it will roll
out its $1 per-watt solar rebate program to more than twenty Texas cities and
towns throughout central Texas until the end of this year.
Longhorn Solar decided to offer this rebate program due
to the heavy demand from
PEC customers.
This rebate program enables PEC customers to sign up for
solar rebates that range from $1,000 up to $20,000 to help them reduce the cost
of installing a solar power array. The solar rebates start for systems from
3-kW and at maximum size of 20-kW to comply with PEC’s interconnection
agreement.
In addition to the Longhorn Solar rebate,
PEC customers can also take advantage of the 30 percent Federal Solar Tax
Credit, which means a customer who installs a 20-kW system would also receive a
federal solar tax credit up to $16,500.
By combining the $1 per-watt solar rebate with the 30
percent federal solar tax credit, PEC customers are now able to offset about 50
percent of the solar system’s cost.
The solar powered savings for PEC customers will be
substantial. A 20-kW solar power array will generate approximately $84,000
worth of free solar electricity over the solar system’s 25-year life cycle.
“It was clear from the PEC customer interest at the
Austin Home and Garden show that there is a huge pent up demand from folks
living throughout PEC’s service territory for a solar incentive program. We are
very proud to be the very first company to offer a solar incentive program for
PEC customers and we look forward to helping them save millions of dollars on
their electricity bills during 2012,” said Louis
Petrik, chief operating officer, Longhorn Solar.
