Japan will soon sign for a carbon offset agreement with India under a Japanese scheme agreeing on cutting down greenhouse gas emissions, reported Reuters.

Japanese Prime Minister has invited Indian Prime Minister to Tokyo in early July to make a joint announcement of the project and have further discussions over Japan’s bilateral carbon offset mechanism.

According to a bilateral agreement signed by Japan with 11 countries, Japan can outsource their emission cuts to those countries and reduce effect of greenhouse gases more cheaply, says the report.

After the Fukushima tragedy Japan closed down its 48 nuclear plants and has since then strengthened its focus on renewable energy instead of fuels that produce higher density of carbon emission.

Tokyo has slowed down its 2020 emission target, allowing a three percent growth on green gas output within a decade instead of cutting down on carbon footprint, according to the news agency.
