Ambient Devices teams with Ember for ZigBee-enabled in-home displays

By Greentech Lead Team: Ambient Devices, a
provider of devices and systems that deliver instant access to information
and Ember, a provider of ZigBee-networking technologies, are partnering to
create cost-effective and reliable In-Home Display (IHD) solutions for the
smart energy market.

Under the
partnership, Ember is providing its EM300 series platform to Ambient Devices to
develop a new line of best-in-class IHDs.

Ember’s
ZigBee-certified Smart Energy Profile platform will be integrated into
Ambient’s line of in-home, smart meter energy products.

Ambient’s
energy products, using Ember’s ZigBee technology platform will enable utilities
and their customers to efficiently manage their energy consumption with
up-to-the-moment information at a glance.

The EM300
Series chips from Ember are ARM Cortex-M3 based family of SoCs (system-on-chip)
delivering low power consumption and code density in a compact package.

“Ambient
Devices and Ember share a long friendship dating back to our infancies at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab, where both were
established,” said Pritesh Gandhi, CEO of Ambient Devices.

Ember’s
ZigBee networking systems – chips, ZigBee protocol software and tools simplify
the complexity of integrating embedded software, networking and RF for
developing low-power, wireless products in the connected home, smart energy,
and other remote monitoring and control applications.

“Energy
management is turning out to be a big piece of the Connected Home, and
state-of-the-art products, such as those from Ambient Devices, will make it
simple for average homeowners to impact how they monitor and control their
energy consumption,” said Bob LeFort, CEO of Ember.
