Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on TenneT,  Bondada Engineering, NextEra Solar-Storage Project in Nevada, Moonlight Range Wind Project, Meridian Energy, among others.

TenneT Starts Laying Offshore Wind Cables in the Netherlands

TenneT has started installing offshore cables to connect future wind farms in the Netherlands to the national grid. The project includes six directional drillings near Wijk aan Zee to bring cables ashore, part of a larger plan to support 21 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. The cables will link offshore platforms to onshore substations, enabling power transmission. This work is essential to meeting national energy targets and ensuring reliable transmission of renewable electricity. TenneT’s role supports grid expansion and integration of offshore wind into the Dutch energy system.

Bondada Engineering Secures 2.6 GWp Solar Project in Andhra Pradesh

Bondada Engineering has received a government order from the Andhra Pradesh Energy Department to develop a 2,000 MW AC (2,600 MWp DC) solar power project. The project will be implemented across multiple locations in the Ananthapuramu and Sri Sathya Sai districts, including Roddam, Kothacheruvu, Gooty, Peddavadugur, Vidapanakallu, Peddapappur, and Narpala. The initiative, valued at INR 9,000 crore, is scheduled for completion within 24 months under the state’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024. Bondada Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of Bondada Engineering, will execute the project.

BLM Seeks Public Input on 200 MW NextEra Solar-Storage Project in Nevada

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has initiated a 30-day public comment period for NextEra Energy Resources’ proposed 200 MW Copper Rays Solar projects in Nye County, Nevada. The project encompasses 1,600 acres, with 635 acres on BLM-administered land, and includes battery storage components. This initiative aligns with federal goals to expand renewable energy on public lands. If approved, construction could commence in late 2026, creating approximately 300 temporary jobs. The BLM invites public feedback on environmental and community impacts until July 28, 2025.

Queensland Scraps 450 MW Moonlight Range Wind Project

The Queensland government has cancelled the 450 MW Moonlight Range Wind Farm near Rockhampton. The project, backed by Brookfield and Greenleaf Renewables, included 88 turbines and battery storage to power over 260,000 homes. Although initially approved in December 2024, it was reassessed after receiving over 500 public submissions, with 88 percent opposing. Key concerns were environmental impact, housing strain from 300 construction workers, and lack of consultation. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie stated that renewable projects must meet environmental standards and gain public support to proceed under Queensland’s energy development framework.

Meridian Powers Up New Zealand’s Largest Grid-Scale Battery

Meridian Energy has completed the installation of New Zealand’s largest grid-connected battery energy storage system at the Ruakaka Energy Park in Northland. The system comprises 80 containerised Saft battery modules, offering 100 MW of output and 200 MWh of storage capacity. Construction began in March 2023 and concluded in May 2025. The battery is designed to enhance grid stability and support renewable energy integration. The adjacent 130 MWp solar farm, expected to generate up to 230 GWh annually, remains under construction. The combined project is part of Meridian’s NZ$227 million investment in renewable infrastructure.
